Ma. Korzekwa is a graduate of Portland State University with a Masters in Special Education and a focus in autism spectrum disorders. Ms. Korzekwa has also recently begun pursuing her doctorate in Special Education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Currently, Ms. Korzekwa works as the Autism Special Education Liaison at the Christian Sarkine Autism Treatment Center at Riley Hospital for Children. Her work there includes intensive training with the HANDS in Autism Program for teachers and other professionals who work with students on the spectrum. She is also working on a team with a local school district to develop a demonstration classroom in the community based on “best practices” used to help educate individuals on the spectrum. Prior to joining the team at Riley two years ago, Ms. Korzekwa worked as a special education teacher in the Evergreen School District in Vancouver, WA. During that time, Ms. Korzekwa ran two programs which focused on the serving children grades K-5 with severe classic autism and other communication and behavioral disorders. Ms. Korzekwa also served as a member of the Northwest Autism Consulting CADRE that focused in the southern region of Washington State. She and her colleges worked to train and educate the community who work with individuals or have a family member on the autism spectrum. Ms. Korzekwa is also a sibling of an individual on the spectrum with mild mental retardation. This personal connection has taken Patricia in the direction of helping families and other professionals find consistency through proactive programming across multiple environments to provide support for their students.
